Official urges Iran to open consulate office in Iraq’s eastern province

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iraqi provincial official called on Iran to open its consulate office in Iraq’s Waset province.

Governor-General of Iraq’s Waset Province Mahmud Abdel Raza Talal urged Iranian and Iraqi foreign ministries to open Iran’s Consulate Office in his province.

“It is in the interest of Iraq, specially Waset province, to fulfill my request,” Talal told FNA's correspondent in Baghdad on Tuesday.

“This request has been made according to the local government and with respect to the numerous commonalities of Iraq and Iraq and the need of the Iraqi companies and businessmen to an Iranian Consulate in this province,” the Iraqi governor-general said.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, in 2003.

Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in expanding their ties, in economic fields in particular.
