TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated Iran’s important role in settling the regional crises, and urged increased cooperation and interactions with Tehran on regional developments.
In a message to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday, Lavrov stated that friendly relations with Iran and common stances on regional and international issues are of great significance for Russia.
He urged further cooperation between Moscow and Tehran based on their mutual interests, consolidation of regional interactions, and support for the establishment of international stability and security.
The Russian top diplomat also felicitated Zarif on appointment as Iran’s new foreign minister.
Iran and Russia have vast cooperation in different fields, specially in political and economic spheres.
The two also enjoy special position on the international scene and have long held constant consultations on key regional and global issues.
Russian banks are participating in schemes to finance Iranian oil exports, which are the target of US and European sanctions against Tehran.
