Zarif: expansion of ties with Africa “Iran’s top priority”

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Expansion of ties and cooperation with the African countries, including Mali, sets a high priority for Iran’s foreign policy, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced.

In a meeting with the outgoing Malian Ambassador to Tehran Amado Mudi Dial on Tuesday evening, Zarif expressed delight that his first official meeting was with the ambassador of one of the brotherly and friendly African countries, Mali.

Zarif also referred to the recent presidential election in Mali, and wished success and prosperity for the new Malian president and government.

Presidential elections were held in Mali on 28 July 2013, with a second round run-off held on 11 August. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita defeated Soumaila Cisse in the run-off to become the new President of Mali.

During the meeting, the Malian envoy, too, announced his country’s interest in using Iran’s noteworthy achievements in development and infrastructure fields.
