Official: Iraq’s demand for Iranian goods high

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi businessmen have high demand for Iranian goods due to their high quality, an Iranian official announced.

“There is a high demand for Iranian products in Iraq due to high quality of the goods which are made or produced in Iran,” Iranian Consul General in Basra Hamidreza Mokhtasabadi said on Monday.

He underlined that Iraq’s Basra as economic capital of Iraq has created a huge capacity for Khuzestan province, saying that the Iranian businessmen can seize the opportunity and supply their goods to the Iraqi markets.

Mokhtasabadi reiterated that the Iranian commodities are currently in high demand in Iraq.

Last week, a senior customs official said that Iran exported over $176mln of various goods and commodities to Iraq through Arvand Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in the Southern Province of Khuzestan in the first four months of the current Iranian year (started on March 21), adding that the figure shows an approximately 73% of growth.

Managing-Director of Arvand Free Trade Zone Organization Mehdi Nikpey said that the figure indicates an increase of 73 percent in terms of value compared to that of the corresponding period last year.

He underlined that some $102mln worth of commodities were exported to Iraq last year.

Nikpey stressed that detergent, foodstuff and construction materials were main exported items.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
