Senior cleric reiterates Iran’s key role in Lebanon’s victory over Israel in 2006 war

TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary-General of the Lebanese Ummah Movement Abdul Nasser al Jabri Wednesday lauded the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the people and government of Lebanon in their resistance against the Zionist regime during the 33-day war in Summer 2006.

Al Jabri, a Sunni Muslim leader, said in a statement to mark the 7th anniversary of the victory of Resistance in the 33-day war against the Israeli aggression on Lebanon that Iranian and Syrian supports played a significant role in the historical victory.

He also thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for contributing to the reconstruction of Lebanon after the war, saying Iran has always stood by Lebanese people even in the most difficult periods.

Israel launched a heavy attack over southern Lebanon in summer 2006 in a bid to undermine Hezbollah military power but it failed to materialize the plot; the UN Resolution 1701 put an end to the 33-day conflict imposed on Lebanon after the Lebanese pushed the Israelis back to the borders.

Early in February 2012, Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei categorically denied Iran’s interference in Bahrain, but meantime stressed Iran’s direct involvement in the Palestinian and Lebanese confrontation against Israel, including the Lebanese Summer 2006 33-day resistance against the Zionist regime.

“Wherever Iran interferes, it announces it in a very straightforward manner. For instance, we interfered in confrontations against Israel, which resulted in the (Lebanese) victory in the 33-day war and (Palestinians’ victory in) the 22-day (Gaza) war,” Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing millions of Friday Prayers worshippers on Tehran University Campus at the time.

“In future too, we will support and help everyone who opposes the Zionist regime,” the Leader underscored.

“The Zionist regime is a real cancerous tumor that should be cut and will be cut, God Willing,” Ayatollah Khamenei underscored.
