Egypt Muslim Brotherhood ready to hold talks with army

Egypts Muslim Brotherhood says it is ready to take part in talks with the army, mediated by the countrys leading Islamic authority, the Al-Azhar Institute.
The Muslim Brotherhoods spokesman Gehad El-Haddad made the announcement on Tuesday, saying the group would participate in talks "if they stick to rules we're asking for."

He added that the talks must be based upon the "restoration of constitutional legitimacy."

Haddad further said his group was open to talks aimed at bringing an end to the violence in Egypt, started following the ouster of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi last month.

Tension has intensified in the North African country since July 3 when the Egyptian army removed Morsi from office. The army also suspended the constitution and dissolved the parliament.

The move triggered massive protests across the country.

Hundreds of protesters, mostly Morsis supporters, have been killed or wounded during the ongoing violence.

Last week, Al-Azhar said it would call for a meeting on the crisis in Egypt.

On Wednesday, police clashed with pro-Morsi protesters. The Muslim Brotherhood says as many as 120 people have been killed so far. The death toll is expected to rise.
