Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared an amnesty in connection with the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, the ISNA news agency reported on Thursday.
Head of Iran's judiciary Sadiq Amoli Larijani on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr appealed to the Supreme Leader with a letter in which he asked for an amnesty of political, military and civil offenders. The supreme leader in turn, signed a relevant decree

According to the amnesty decision, those deprived of freedom for a term of one year are exempt from serving the remainder of the sentence.

The punishment of persons sentenced to life imprisonment and has passed at least 15 year in prison. The punishment of persons sentenced to imprisonment for a term of one to five years is reduced by half.

Persons serving a sentence of five to 15 years are exempt from serving the third part of the punishment.

Perpetrators of the crime of negligence, women prisoners, those who take care of young children, prisoners with incurable and infectious diseases, adolescents under 18, men over 65 and women over 55 who have been sentenced to prison imprisonment and a fine are also exempt from serving the remainder of the sentence.

The amnesty does not apply to persons sentenced to imprisonment for a term of five years for assault, drugs and weapons smuggling, treason, crimes that threaten national security, kidnapping, rape, trafficking, major fraud, counterfeiting money and securities, acid throwing, alcohol-related offenses .
