Official praises Irans medical assistance to Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Syrian health official appreciated Irans medical assistance and support for his country and people.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has helped the Syrian government and people in different fields , Head of Syrias Blood Bank Bassam Eid said, reiterating Irans relentless help and efforts in medical fields in Syria.

He pointed to Irans aid and backup for Syrias Blood Bank, and said, The blood bags used at this center are made in Iran and we have signed an MoU with the Islamic Republic in this field.

In June, Syrian Health Minister Saad al-Nayef thanked Iran for sending medical assistance to his country, saying, The help will prevent the death of many people suffering from war injuries.

A dozen Syrian hospitals were in need of ambulances and medical equipment to resume work, when Iran provided the aid, Nayef said in June.

The Syrian health minister noted that Syria's medical needs are around $200mln.

Iran sent its third consignment of humanitarian aid, including medicine and medical equipment, to Syria in June.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, were killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes. Since then, tens of thousands of people have been killed, including thousands who bore foreign nationalities and had come to Syria to fight an insurgency war against the Damascus government.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
