TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran's concentrated coal production would be quadrupled by the next 8 years, hitting 4,600,000 tons, said Deputy Head of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) Jamshid Mollarahman.
"Concentrated coal output totaled 1.1 million tons in 2012 which is scheduled to hit 4.600,000 tons in 2021," Mollarahman noted.
Iran's coal reserves surpass 550 million tons, mostly located in Kerman Province, southern Iran, Tabas City, northeastern Iran and Alborz Province, central Iran.
He said the country is taking the required steps, including making huge investment to produce coke up to 4 million tons in the next 8 years.
According to the Iranian economic officials, there are over 150 active coal mines in the country.
