Israel-Palestine talks doomed to failure: Iran envoy

Irans ambassador to Damascus says the US-backed negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel are doomed to failure as Tel Aviv refuses to accept Palestinians demands.
This is not the first time these negotiations are taking place, and each time such action was taken, it was practically ineffective, Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani said on Friday.
The existential foundations of the Zionist regime (Israel) are based on occupation, aggression and attacking neighboring countries and other nations, and thats why this round of negotiations is assessed as a failure before it starts, the Iranian envoy pointed out.
On July 29, the Israelis returned to the negotiating table in Washington with the Palestinian Authority officials for direct talks for the first time in three years.

Following the end of the two-day US-brokered talks on Tuesday, US Secretary of State John Kerry said the Palestinian Authority and Israelis will reopen negotiations within the next two weeks.

The last Palestinian-Israeli talks broke down in September 2010 after Tel Aviv refused to freeze its settlement activities in the occupied West Bank.

The United Nations and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories where the settlements are being constructed were captured by Israel in a war in 1967 and are therefore subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids construction on occupied lands.
