Dialog unhelpful in Palestine issue: Ahmadinejad

Irans outgoing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the question of Palestine is the question of saving humanity itself, stressing that the issue cannot be solved through dialog.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks in his International Quds Day speech addressing huge crowds of worshippers attending Friday Prayers at Tehran University.

He said it would be nave to think that the issue of Palestine could be resolved through talks and divvying up a territory.

Ahmadinejads words came against the backdrop of US-sponsored talks between Israel and Palestine.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State John Kerry said that the two sides would meet in either Israel or the Palestinian territories in order to begin the process of formal negotiation.

However, many Palestinians believe the talks are doomed to failure because the Israeli regime and Washington are pushing for the Palestinians to unconditionally surrender.

Ahmadinejad noted that the Israeli regime has been created for the final goal of dominance on the Middle East.

He said the Western supporters of Israel are sowing discord in Syria and Egypt in line with their efforts to establish a new Middle East.

In August 1979, the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini declared the last Friday of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan as International Quds Day, calling on Muslims across the world to mark the annual occasion by holding street rallies.

Millions of people around the world take to the streets on this day in a show of support for the people of Palestine, demanding an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

Palestinians are seeking to create an independent state on the territories of the West Bank, East al-Quds (Jerusalem), and the Gaza Strip, and are demanding that Israel withdraw from the Palestinian territories occupied in the 1967 Six-Day War.
