The Syrian army has regained control of the Khaldiyeh district in the central Syrian city of Homs after more than one month of fierce fighting,Press TVreports.
Khaldiyeh was reportedly the main stronghold of foreign-backed militants in Homs, and their main operation room in the city.
"Despite all the terrorists propaganda, we are here in Khaldiyeh and we are taking control of the neighborhood. We will carry out operation until we liberate all of Homs", a Syrian soldier said.
"We entered Khaldiyeh despite the fortifications... we were determined to enter because its a very strategic place not for Homs but for the whole Syria," said another soldier.

On Tuesday, the Syrian army launched a counter-offensive against militants on the strategic district of al-Qaboun near Damascus.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011.

According to the reports, the West and its regional allies -- Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on July 25 that more than 100,000 people have been killed in Syria since the outbreak of foreign-sponsored militancy in the country. Millions of others have been also displaced in the violence.
