Roadside bomb kills 9 in Afghanistan

[caption id="attachment_36329" align="alignright" width="210"] A car bomb has hit the NATO military base in Kabul, Afghanistan, on July 2, 2013.[/caption]
At least nine people including two Afghan security guards have been killed in a roadside bomb explosion in the southern province of Zabul.
Deputy provincial governor Mohammad Jan Rasolyar said that the attack was carried out during late hours of Sunday, and that the target of the bomb blast was the deputy police chief.

The official added that a dozen people, mostly children, were also wounded in the blast.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Afghan government officials often blame the Taliban militant group for such attacks.

Insecurity remains in Afghanistan despite the presence of US-led foreign troops. The United States and its allies invaded the country in 2001 as part of the so-called war on terror.
