No talks without reliable change in US positions: Iran MP

A senior Iranian lawmaker says unless Tehran sees reliable change in US positions negotiations with Washington have no meaning.
The political and analytical confusion among US officials shows we cannot rely on the new analysis [of data] which has led to the letter sent by 130 US lawmakers to [President Barack] Obama [for direct talks with Iran], Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday.

Last week, 131 US lawmakers wrote a letter to President Obama, asking the White House to opt for diplomatic channels in dealing with Iran following the victory of Hassan Rohani in Irans June 14th presidential election.
Unless we see a change in the positions of the Americans, which can be relied upon, talking about serious negotiations with the US is out of the question, he added.
The lawmaker said the Majlis committee has briefly discussed the letter sent by US lawmakers to the White House and reached the same conclusion that Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei stated earlier about the US being untrustworthy.

The US House of Representatives is reportedly scheduled to vote on a sanctions legislation targeting Iranian oil exports, among other things. The Senate, the upper house of the US Congress, is also said to be scheduled to vote on the bill after the legislative bodys August recess.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution on July 21 expressed skepticism about talks with the United States, saying he was not opposed to talks with Washington on certain issues.

I am not optimistic about negotiation with the US although I have not rejected negotiations over certain issues such as Iraq in the past years, the Leader stated.
