Supreme Leader meets Iranian, foreign poets, artists

TEHRAN (FNA)- Supreme Leaser of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei met with a group of Iranian and foreign poets and artists.


Poets from Afghanistan, Tajikistan and India who write poems in the Persian language as well as Iranian veteran and young poets and men of literature met with Ayatollah Khamenei on Tuesday evening.

During the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei said that men of art and literature are shouldering heavy burdens regarding the Islamic Revolution and the basic issues of the country.

He noted that artists and poets should create lasting, rich and valuable works.

The Supreme Leader also suggested the poets and artists to use Islamic teachings, lifestyle and thoughts in their works to make people familiar with the Islamic values.

Referring to the values of the Islamic Revolution as a source of inspiration for other nations, particularly in resisting world bullying powers, the Ayatollah also urged men of literature to echo revolutionary values in their works.

He further underlined the need to pay due attention to major political and international issues such as the cause of Palestine in literary works.

In February 2012, Poets from Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Lebanon, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iran attended the International Congress on Islamic Awakening Literature, which was held in Tehran on February 5 and 6.

Addressing poets from regional countries who participated in a congress of Islamic Awakening poetry in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei urged Muslim nations to overcome their differences and predicted that the Islamic Awakening movement would change the history of Muslim nations.
