Roadside bomb kills 2 in Syria’s Hama

A roadside bomb has exploded in the Syrian central city of Hama, killing at least two people including a woman.
The fatalities came after the bomb, planted by militants fighting against the Syrian government, exploded near Tall Durra-al-Ramliyeh road in the city’s al-Salamiyeh area, Syria's official SANA news agency reported on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, two people were wounded when mortar shells fired by foreign-backed militants slammed into a residential building in Masaken Barzeh neighborhood of the capital Damascus.

Police sources said the terrorist attack has caused huge material damage to the houses in the area.

On July 12, six people were killed and over 40 others wounded after foreign-backed militants fired mortar shells at civilian houses in the capital’s al-Amaara neighborhood.

On July 2, a mortar shell fired by anti-government forces slammed into the al-Tadamun neighborhood in Damascus, injuring at least ten people including three kids.

Meanwhile, Syrian army troops carried out a series of mop-up operations in the capital, destroying terrorist hideouts and large amounts of heavy machineguns on Tuesday.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 90,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants.
