Iranian president-elect meets MPs at parliament

Iranian President-elect Hassan Rohani has attended a meeting with Iranian lawmakers in the building of the Iranian parliament (Majlis).
Rohani visited the parliament on Sunday night when he and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani delivered speeches.

The president-elect, who was being accompanied by a number of his senior advisors, called on the executive and legislative branches to cooperate closely in an attempt to overcome domestic problems, saying, The next administration will consider the parliament as an important and influential institution.
Certainly, solving the countrys issues would not be possible without cooperation between the parliament and the executive body, he added.
Nearly 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to participate in the June 14 presidential election. The Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at 72.7 percent.

Rohani, who won 50.7 percent of the vote to secure an outright victory in the June 14 election, will succeed Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Rohani currently represents Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei in the Supreme National Security Council, and is a member of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts. He is also director of the Expediency Council's Center for Strategic Research.
