British Straw says keen to visit Iran

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Former British Foreign Secretary Jack Strawsaid he plans to travel Iran soon with the aim of improving ties between London and Tehran, expressing optimism over the Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani's government.
Straw said that he had sent a message of congratulation to Rouhani following his victory in presidential election through Oman embassy, while embassies in the two countries have been shut down.

Speaking to BBC News Channel, Straw expressed the hope that Iran-Britain relations would be expanded and the embassies would be reopened in the two countries.

Straw is a member of British Lower Chamber and an official of Iran-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group.

He had initiated talks on Iran's nuclear issue with the then French and German foreign ministers in 2003.
