Iran to run in Asian Athletics Championships
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian athletes are participating in the 20th Asian Athletics Championships-2013 in India.


20 Iranian Athletes are participating in 20th Asian Athletics Championships-2013, kicked off Wednesday at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune city of Western Indian state, Maharashtra.

Beside Iran, 42 out of 45 member nations of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) are taking part in the five day (July 3-7) meet.

A total of 578 athletes, including 150 from the host country, have entered in the meet and the list included four world champions and 14 defending champions from the last meet in Kobe, Japan.

This is the first time that Maharashtra is entrusted with conducting the prestigious continental meet. Earlier Delhi hosted the 8th Asian Athletics Championships

This championship has assumed added stature and importance as the winners of the various events would gain direct entry into the Moscow World Championships starting on August 10 whether they reach the A or B qualifying mark or not, said the Olympian.

The president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, Lamine Diack, will also witness the championship.
