Iran inaugurates first bank of live edible mushrooms
TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran opened the first bank of live edible mushrooms in northeastern city of Mashhad.
Iran is one of the best places in the world for collecting genomic resources of edible mushrooms. Edible mushrooms are now widely used in Iran as a healthy non-animal source of protein with high nutritional value.

A faculty member of Academic Jihad Hamidreza Pourianfar called for collecting species of wild edible mushrooms in Iran and investigating and recording their properties. He noted such a measure saves the country's currency and cuts its reliance on importing native seed fungi and makes it possible to export the product to regional markets.

The process makes it possible for modifying the commercial breeds inside the country and saving the country's currency.
