Tehran to host longest BRT line

Tehran to host longest BRT line
BRT lines with the passage of a few years have gained a specific status in urban transportation in Tehran. Now in continuation of the programs for development of these lines, construction operations are being finalized for BRT Line 8 and establishment of the longest line in the city has been started.
Hassan Aqaei, Director General for Traffic Safety and Engineering of the Transportation and Traffic Deputyship of Tehran Municipality told Shahrnevesht: During the past two days construction operations for the shelter of BRT Line 8 were completed and we hope that the line would become operational by the next week. Presently operations are underway for the installation of card reader machines at Line 8 which we hope upon its completion citizens will be witness to the operation of this line next week. BRT Line 8 with a length of 7.5 km has been constructed along South Terminal to Khavaran Terminal which is expected to drastically reduce traffic, especially for suburban passengers.

Aqaei further added: Construction operations for the BRT system have been started in Imam Ali (A.S.) Highway. Locations for BRT stations in Imam Ali (A.S.) Highway have been specified and at present shelters are being designed. BRT line in Imam Ali (A.S.) Highway with a length of 36 km and 29 stations is being implemented as the longest BRT line and with regard to the length of the highway and the need for citizens to gain access to public transportation its construction was inevitable.

Aqaei remarked: The integrated management is the factor for acceleration of construction of BRT lines. The importance of the integrated management would become apparent when you could implement construction operations with further speed. With the operation of Line 8 of BRT buses within six years Tehran will gain access to eight BRT lines.

According to the report, the location operation and studies for Line 6 in Sadr Highway have also been completed.
