Lebanese parliament speaker congratulates Iran president-elect Rohani

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has congratulated Hassan Rohani over his victory in Irans 11th presidential election.
In a message on Sunday, Berri extended his and Lebanese lawmakers congratulations to Rohani on his landslide victory in the June 14 poll.

Berri described the Iranian nations vote of confidence in Rohani as valuable.

The Lebanese official wished Rohani success in carrying out his duties to further boost national development and growth and consolidate unity among world Muslims.

Also on Sunday, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan congratulated Irans President-elect on his victory, hailing the successful and peaceful presidential election.

Jonathan voiced readiness to cooperate with Irans incoming administration to expand existing bilateral ties.

Nearly 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to participate in the June 14 presidential election. The Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at 72.7 percent.

Rohani won 50.7 percent of the vote to win the election outright.

Rohani currently represents Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei in the Supreme National Security Council, and is a member of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts. He is also director of the Expediency Council's Center for Strategic Research.
