Iranian presidential contender Mohsen Rezaei says he has no plans to form a coalition with any other rival candidates for the June 14 election.Speaking in a Wednesday press conference, the independent candidate emphasized that he is serious about his candidacy and will not quit the race.
He added, Today, any [political] bickering is a waste of the nations time. Time is our most important asset and given the sanctions and lost time, we shouldnt lose even one second.
Rezaei, secretary of the Expediency Council, said if elected, he would go beyond political lines and include figures with different affiliations in his Cabinet.
Rezaei is facing five rivals, namely President of the Expediency Councils Center for Strategic Research Hassan Rohani, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.
Two candidates, former Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel and former First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref withdrew their candidacies on Monday.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. Nearly 50.5 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential poll.
