Ex-Iran presidents Rafsanjani, Khatami endorse Rohani for presidency

Irans former presidents, Mohammad Khatami and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, have endorsed reformist candidate Hassan Rohani for the presidency.
Khatami urged supporters of the reformist camp to vote for Rohani in the June 14 presidential election.

Hashemi Rafsanjani, who currently heads the countrys Expediency Council, also thanked former candidate Mohammad Reza Aref for quitting the race in favor of the reformist camp.

Rohani is now facing five rivals, including former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. Nearly 50.5 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential poll.
