Rezaei pledges to fight inflation, unemployment, sanctions

Iranian presidential candidate Mohsen Rezaei says he has what it takes to tackle inflation, unemployment as well as the US-engineered sanctions.
On Monday, the independent candidate criticized his rivals for exaggerating the current situation in Iran to garner votes, advising them against fomenting despair in the society.

Rezaei, who is Secretary of the Expediency Council, further noted that there are serious issues faced by the country, adding that the next four years will be tough, and there will be no room for trial and error in the next administration.

He also urged his rivals not to waste peoples time, and called on voters to elect someone who will not make mistakes during his four-year term in office.

Rezaei is facing five rivals including President of the Expediency Councils Center for Strategic Research Hassan Rohani, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.

Two presidential candidates, former Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel and former First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref withdrew their candidacy bids respectively on Monday and early Tuesday.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. Nearly 50.5 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential election.
