Addressing a gathering of his supporters in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad on Monday, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council said Iran is the standard-bearer of resistance in the Muslim world and for the same reason, it is not acceptable to see inflation or unemployment in the country.
The chief nuclear negotiator further noted that he's standing tall, because he has never deviated from the guidelines of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Jalili said should he emerge winner in the June 14 election, he will resolve the countrys economic maladies by boosting production, curbing imports and regulating the financial market.
Jalili is facing five rivals including President of the Expediency Councils Center for Strategic Research Hassan Rohani, Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.
Two presidential candidates, former Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel and former First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref withdrew their candidacy bids respectively on Monday and early Tuesday.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. Nearly 50.5 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential poll.
