Iran UN mission elected new chair of UNCPC
Iran Permanent Mission to the United Nations has been appointed as the new chair of the UN Committee for Program and Coordination (UNCPC).
Iran Mission to the UN is, therefore, chairing the 53rd session of the UNCPC, which kicked off on June 3 and will run until June 28 at the UN headquarters in New York.

The UNCPC is the major subsidiary organ of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the General Assembly for planning, programming and coordination.

The body is tasked with significant mandates such as reviewing the program framework of the UN activities as well as monitoring and giving recommendations on plans and initiatives for coordination between different entities of the UN.

The committee is composed of 34 UN member states, which are elected for a three-year term on the basis of equitable geographical distribution. The seats of the UNCPC are currently occupied by 31 countries.
