Qalibaf criticizes widening social divide in Iran

Iranian presidential candidate, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has criticized the growing poverty and discrimination in the Iranian society, calling for national unity to encounter the phenomenon.
In a televised speech on Wednesday night, Qalibaf, currently the mayor of Tehran, noted, We need concord and we need national solidarity for a sweeping movement.
If we fail to eliminate this discrimination and poverty, it will not be possible for us to achieve solidarity and concord. Unfortunately, class differences have increased compared with the past, the presidential candidate pointed out.
The Tehran mayor also underscored the need for a comprehensive strategy to run the countrys affairs, saying, The next administration should know that it needs a systematic and well-defined plan. I have prepared such a plan and a lot of work has been done on this plan, of course, in cooperation with the elites and the main role has been played by the elites and experts.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the presidential candidate pointed to the peoples concerns about the management of domestic economy and pledged that he will restore stability to the national economy within two years if elected president.
Touching on his foreign policy strategies, Qalibaf noted, As long as we lack internal solidarity [and] as long as there is no powerful and efficient administration ..., it would not be possible for us to succeed in foreign policy; whether we want to resist [against our enemies], counter [them], or take part in negotiations [with them].
Qalibaf is competing against Secretary of Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, President of the Center for Strategic Research of the Expediency Council Hassan Rohani, lawmaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, former First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election, due to be held on June 14 this year.
