Syrian President Bashar al-Assad greeting supporters[/caption]Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi says a Hezbollah-style resistance movement has emerged in Syria.
Thanks to [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assads strategic role, a popular resistance with the same nature as that of Lebanons Hezbollah has taken shape across Syria and is solidifying, Firouzabadi said on Friday.
The top Iranian commander noted that the resistance in Syria has emerged triumphant owing to Assads prudence in dealing with the extremist groups and the hegemonic powers as well as the Syrian nations support for him.
Firouzabadi argued that the war in Syria has come to an end, saying, Therefore, the enemies had better not interfere in Syrias affairs anymore.
On Friday, Syrias ambassador to the United Nations said al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front terrorist group had claimed responsibility for at least 600 acts of terror over the past year.
Diplomats have said the UN Security Council will add the al-Nusra Front to its sanctions blacklist next week. As a result, the group will be subject to a global asset freeze from Tuesday onwards.
However, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has been in direct cooperation with the terrorist al-Nusra Front in Syria.
The Syrian government had asked the Security Council to blacklist al-Nusra last month, but the request was blocked by Britain and France.
The unrest in Syria began in March 2011; and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
