Irans Foreign Minister Salehi arrives in Jordan for talks

Irans Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has arrived in Jordan to discuss regional developments, specifically the issue of the crisis in Syria, with Jordanian officials.
Salehi told reporters upon arriving at Queen Alia International Airport in the capital, Amman, on Tuesday that the issue of Syria would be the focal point of the talks due to the rising violence in Syria and the irreparable consequences it would have for the region.

The Iranian foreign minister also stated that the issue of terrorism and the measures against the spread of the phenomenon would be discussed during the talks in Amman.

Terrorism is an issue which has affected the whole region and the Islamic Republic seeks to resolve the problem, Salehi said.

The Iranian top diplomat also commented on the desecration of the mausoleum of Hujr ibn Adi, a revered Shia Muslim figure, by the militants in Syria, saying such attempts were aimed at sowing discord among Shias and Sunnis.

On May 2, the foreign-backed militant groups in Syria raided the mausoleum in the Damascus suburb of Adra, and transferred the remains of the Shia figure to an unknown location.

Salehi called on the regional countries to work together to prevent the spread of discord among Shia and Sunni Muslims.
