The Islamic Republic of Iran ranks first in science production in the Middle East, the country’s deputy minister for science, research and technology tells Press TV.
“Our scientific research is exceptional. We ranked between 16th and 17th in the world in science and technology and ranked first in the region. Before, we ranked 2nd in the region behind Turkey but we have surpassed now,” Gholam-Reza Khajeh-Sarvi said.
The Iranian official added that Iran has progressed even with unilateral sanctions imposed against the country by the US and its allies.
“Iran started focusing on science and technology in the 1980s. Today, we have over 30,000 scientific publications in international journals. Our university students are denied the proper laboratory equipment, testing facilities and books because of US sanctions. However, with hard work and knowledge we have become stronger and made great achievements in science and technology,” he added.
Due to the efforts of Iranian scientists, doctors, engineers and researchers, Iran has advanced tremendously in the fields of stem cell research, medicine, nanotechnology, biotechnology and aerospace engineering.
