Iran-Turkey ties strategic: Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has described Iran-Turkey relations as strategic, saying the maintenance of mutual ties and cooperation contributes to the security of the region.
Mehmanparast made the remarks in a Tuesday meeting with his Turkish counterpart Zeki Levent Gumrukcu in Tehran, where they discussed regional and international developments, bilateral issues and the means to expand media cooperation between Tehran and Ankara.

Mehmanparast underlined the necessity for continued media cooperation and news exchange between the two countries.

He pointed to the high capacity of some Iranian media outlets in covering news in several languages, expressing the Islamic Republics readiness to bolster media cooperation with Turkey.

The Turkish official, for his part, stressed the need for the expansion of Iran-Turkey media ties in order to enlighten public opinion and remove ambiguities between the two countries regarding regional developments.

Also on Tuesday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman held a press conference at the Turkish embassy in Tehran.

During his press briefing, Gumrukcu said, despite differences of opinion with Iran over a number of issues, there is no mistrust between the two countries.

Commenting on the Syrian unrest, he said finding a political solution to the crisis in the Arab country is Ankaras priority.

The Turkish official also pointed to the situation in Bahrain and said, No regime, no government can continue to survive unless they address the legitimate concerns and expectations of their people, so this is our policy. This is what we call upon everyone.
