Veteran Iranian theatre director and pioneer of traditional Persian puppet play Behrouz Gharibpour is slated to present his Hafez opera puppet show in Dubai.
Dubai is set to host Hafez opera in May. Gharibpour will stage the opera, which is inspired by the life of Persian lyric poet Hafez Shirazi, accompanied by Aran theater troupe.
“I started writing Hafez puppet opera three years ago and tried to make it different from all my previous works,” Gharibpour had earlier explained on the show.
Gharibpour’s Hafez play is also slated to be staged at ‘Piccolo Teatro’in Milan, Italy.
Behrouz Gharibpour is considered one of the pioneers of traditional Persian puppet theatre, known for his extensive research on Qajar puppetry.
Gharibpour has staged his Qajar style puppet play with Aran Puppet Theater Group in numerous domestic and foreign festivals.
He has received many international awards such as The Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2002 and Sierna d’Oro (Arrivano dal mare) in 2008.
Macbeth, Mowlavi, Ashura and Rostam and Sohrab are among his better-known works.
