Nowruz travel season sees 50m trips

Fifty million trips and counting. A record 50 million passenger trips have been made so far in Iran during the Nowruz or Persian New Year travel period, which began on the 21st of March. The figure includes long-distance bus trips, railway journeys, trips by ship and journeys by plane. During the high season, the capital city Tehran, home to more than 13 million residents, looks almost empty. Thats because many have also decided to leave, to visit ancient cities and holy sites, or to see parents, children and relatives.
In the capital, travelers and tourists can explore the very best on a fully-guided tour. They can get an insider look at famous attractions like the Milad Tower. Those on a tight budget can enjoy free entry to some of the capitals world-class sites, including museums, parks, ancient houses, and other architectural wonders.

Many cultures celebrate Nowruz, including those in Iran, Afghanistan, India, Albania, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and many more from Europe to China. Nowruz is the most important festival in Iran, with the earliest written records of festivities dating more than 25 hundred years ago.
