Iran denies reports it stepped up military support to Assad

An Iranian official denied on Thursday overnight reports that Tehran has stepped up its military support to Syrian President Bashar Assad, Al Jazeera reported.
"We believe Syria does not need any military help from Iran," Alireza Miryousefi of the Iranian mission to the UN told Al Jazeera.

"Iran is of the view that the way out of present crisis lies in strengthening a comprehensive peaceful political process under regional and international initiatives with the aim of establishing first and foremost a cessation of the hostilities between the parties and holding national dialogue between the opposition and the Syrian government for a peaceful political process," Miryousefi said.
