Nateghi wins silver for Iran in Asia cycling championships
Iranian cyclist Hossein Nateqi has claimed the first silver medal for Iran to raise the countrys total medal count in the 33rd Senior and 20th Junior Asian Cycling Championships in India.
On Saturday, the 26-year-old Iranian stood finished second in the men's scratch race of the Asian tournaments, and bagged silver. Riders from South Korea and China collected gold and bronze respectively.

Later in the day, Iranian rider Behnam Khosroshahi was ranked second at the end of the first three events of the mens omnium competitions, namely flying lap, points race, and elimination. The rest of the omnium events (individual pursuit, scratch race, and time trial) will be held on Sunday. An omnium is a multiple race event in track cycling.

Meanwhile, Hassan Ali Varposhti demonstrated a brilliant performance in the men's 200m sprint and advanced to the quarterfinals.

The 33rd Senior and 20th Junior Asian Cycling Championships began in the Indian capital New Delhi on Thursday, and will roll out in two venues till March 17.

The track events will be held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadiums Velodrome followed by the road races at the Buddh International Circuit.

Some 800 cyclists from 29 countries will be pitted against each other in the Asian cycling events.

The 36-member-strong Iranian team, rated among the best at the continental level, boasts of some renowned cyclists, including Mehdi Sohrabi, who was the winner of the Asia Tour in 2010 and 2011.
