FPCCI for increased trade volume with Iran

KARACHI: The Chairman of Pakistan Iran Business Council of FPCCI, Tariq Sayeed has stressed the need for exchange in trade delegations and opening new land routes to increase formal trade between the two countries.
He stated this while welcoming Mehdi Sobhani, the Consul General of Iran in Karachi, during his visit to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) head office here on Thursday. Tariq Sayeed appreciated the recent progress on the Pak-Iran pipeline project and called for its early completion for the elimination of energy crisis in Pakistan, adding that the Government of Pakistan was not backing down on this issue in spite of international pressure.

He reiterated that nobody could dictate Pakistan on issues of national interest as these are directly linked by sovereignty of the country, Tariq Sayeed stressed to curb smuggling along with Pak-Iran border, to ensure better access for Pakistans competitive items to Iran.

Mehdi Sobhani said that the Iran-Pak pipeline would meet one third of Pakistan s energy needs and Pakistani rice was already highly appreciated in Iran.

He announced the commencement of a direct flight between Karachi and Mashhad and pledged his round-the-clock assistance in resolving visa issues for business travellers from Pakistan and assured on behalf of Iranian government to address the reservations of Pakistans business community.

Sobhani invited FPCCI to constitute a strong delegation to Iran, and promised to expedite Pakistans single-country exhibition in Iran.
