women_iran_motorWomen in Iran are now officially allowed to drive motorcycles on moto tracks and participate in competitions, Vice president of Motorcyle and Automobile Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (MAFIRI), Hossein Shahriari said.
"Due to coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, MAFIRI was able to receive a licence for women driving motorcycles in sports events," Shahriari said.

Speaking to the journalists, Shahriari said that since there are many female sport motorcycling enthusiasts, they were illegaly using tracks to ride their motorcycles.

"Now, there's no need for illegal activities of such kind. They have official permission for motocross," Shahriari said, noting that it took MAFIRI 7 months to get the official licence.

He noted that the female motorcycling does not break any Islamic laws, and thus women can freely practice and sharpen their riding skills.
