Iranian president says never to surrender to Western pressures

Mahmoud-AhmadinejadTEHRAN, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated on Tuesday that the Islamic republic will never surrender to Western pressures, semi-official Fars news agency reported.
Iran is under a number of unilateral Western sanctions on its oil and financial sectors over its controversial nuclear program.

Ahmadinejad said the pressures exerted by the United States and its allies can never make Iran succumb to their aspirations, urging the West to resolve its problems with Iran through talks, said the report.

Speculating on the possibility of further pressures on Iran by the United States and its Western allies in future, the Iranian president said that pressures on the Iranian nation might increase at some point, but "the enemy will never see the submission of the Iranian nation."

In a fresh move and in a response to the continued nuclear activities of the Islamic republic, the EU on Saturday adopted additional sanctions on one Iranian national and 18 entities including oil, finance and insurance companies said to be involved in or supporting Iran's nuclear activities.

The West has accused Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the guise of its civilian nuclear program, a charge Tehran has consistently denied.
