Vietnam and Iran have agreed to strengthen multifaceted cooperation, especially in trade, agriculture, seafood, culture, sports and tourism.

The agreement was reached during talks in Hanoi on November 9 between President Truong Tan Sang and his visiting Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Sang briefed his guest on Vietnams major achievements during the current Doi Moi (Renewal) process and affirmed the countrys consistent external relations policy of being a reliable friend and partner of all countries in the international community, striving for peace, independence and development.

Vietnam attaches importance to developing friendship and cooperation with traditional friends, including Iran, he said.

Sang congratulated Iran on its successful organisation of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in August 2012 and said Vietnam will closely cooperate with Iran and other NAM member countries to help the organisation further develop.

President Ahmadinejad wished Vietnam success with its socio-economic development targets that will prosper the country and increase their position in the world arena.

He invited president Sang to visit Iran, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure. The visit will be arranged through diplomatic channels.

The same day, Ahmadinejad was received by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong who expressed his pleasure at the development of Vietnam-Iran relationship in recent times.

Trong said he hopes that both countries will increase the exchange of delegations to strengthen cooperation in economics and trade, and expand it to other areas such as culture and education in order to promote mutual understanding.

Ahmadinejad affirmed that Iran wants to develop the traditional relations and boost cooperation in all areas, especially economics and trade, with Vietnam.

Iran will further support Vietnam at multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, he said.

Ahmadinejad began an official two-day visit to Vietnam on November 9 at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang.

Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening the friendship and cooperation with Iran, says National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Receiving Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Hanoi on November 10, Hung welcomed the results of talks and meetings between Vietnamese Party and State leaders and the Iranian President and expressed his belief that Ahmadinejads visit will help strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

He suggested that both countries need to increase the exchange of delegations to share experience in legislation and supervision, as well as to promote the role of the parliamentarian groups of the two countries in increasing cooperation between their legislative bodies.

President Ahmadinejad affirmed that bilateral relations have developed well in various areas and that the two countries leaders have reached consensus on cooperation trends, for peace and development in the world.

He expressed Irans resolve to further foster multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam to lift bilateral ties to new heights.
