Persian Leopard killed by Iranian environmental guards

Persian Leopard killed by Iranian environmental guards
A leopard, which was among endangered species according to the head of Damavand's Department of Environment (DoE) in Iran, was killed in presence of guards.

Surprisingly, when Abbas Mirza Karimi the head of Damavand's department of environment went to a mission to investigate a case that a leopard attacked a resident, two people were injured and the leopard was killed.

So, what is the difference between us and those experts who are well aware of the importance of preserving endangered species? Tabnak said.

Few days ago, a news was transmitted to Damavand Department of Environmental Protection that a wild feline attacked a resident, then the head of the department and two environmental guards went there to investigate the case, saying the feline was a leopard. In the meantime, the leopard attacked the head of DoE and one of the environmental guards and injured them, and they killed the rare feline in the incident!

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed this leopard as a "Near Threatened" species and Abbas Mirza Karimi the head of Damavand's department of environment also emphasized that the endangered species feline is the main purpose of illegal hunters of the region.

So, it is hard to believe that a mission its expeditionary forces were experts, whose main duty is to protect and control wildlife and natural areas, ended with the killing of a rare leopard.
