Iran's parliament supports expansion of ties with Japan: speaker

TEHRAN, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) --Iranian Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said that the parliament would support every effort to expand friendly relations between Tehran and Tokyo, Tehran Times daily reported Wednesday.

Larijani made the remarks during a meeting with theJapanese ambassador to Tehran, Kinichi Komano, at the end of his mission in Iran.

Larijani expressed that the two countries should increase bilateral cooperation, said the report.

He added that good relations between Iran and Japan should not be affected by certain countries' measures meant to undermine bilateral ties.

The outgoing Japanese ambassador, for his part, referred to the importance of Iranian culture and civilization in Asia and said that increasing cooperation with Iran has always been a foreign policy priority for the Japanese government.

In a separate farewell meeting with the outgoing Japanese ambassador to Iran on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said that the Islamic republic has always welcome the enhancement of relations between the two countries.

Komano also thanked Iran for making efforts on the world stage to promote peace and stability.
