Sarkozy's Allegations against Iran, Far From Reality

Sarkozy
Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast rejected the allegations made by French President Nicolas Sarkozy about Iran's nuclear program as far from reality, and insisted that Iran's nuclear activities are aimed at producing energy for peaceful purposes.

Mehman Parast said he was surprised at the baseless and far from reality remarks that our country's nuclear activities are not peaceful.

The French president is after exerting pressure on the Iranian nation by imposing illegal and unfair sanctions, Mehmanparast said on Saturday in response to the recent claims made by Sarkozy regarding the covert military aspect of Iran's nuclear program.

In an annual speech on French diplomacy on Friday, Nicolas Sarkozy warned against any military strike on Iran over its nuclear program. He urged all counties to impose much tougher, much more decisive sanctions on Iran to force it to halt the suspected development of nuclear arms. Sarkozy also called on Iran to negotiate seriously over its nuclear program.

Such attempts have been fully known by people across the world and it is doomed to fail, Ramin Mehman-Parast said in a statement.

Mehman-Parast concluded that the Iran will avoid pointless political disputes as Tehran believes an agreement can only be reached through serious discussion- and cooperation-based on negotiations rather than by imposing sanctions.

While France called for an oil embargo against Iran's oil exports in a bid to halt funding of the country's disputed nuclear program, Manouchehr Takin, an analyst at the Center for Global Energy Studies (CGES) research group, said a removal of Iranian oil exports would hurt Europe more than Tehran.

Moreover, Weinberg wrote in a research note it remains to be seen whether this step (EU sanctions on Iranian oil supplies) is actually taken as it would strike a heavy blow to the EU members.
