Sarkozy: More Decisive Sanctions Can Stop War on Iran
Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the option of a military strike based on the allegation that Iran's nuclear program may consist of a covert military aspect. And, Iranian officials have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.

Thishas createdconcernsforsomeWestern countries, especially France. So, in an annual speech on French diplomacy on Friday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy warned against any military strike on Iran over its nuclear program, saying "a military intervention wouldn't solve the problem, but it would unleash war and chaos in the Middle East, and maybe in the world."

He believed that the only way to avoid military action would be a much tougher, much more decisive sanctions on Iran. "Time is running out" and France would "do everything to avoid a military intervention in Iran", he stressed.

Sarkozy urged Russia and China to agree with toughersanctionsagainst Iran since their decision not to impose sanctions on Iran has created a gap in the international world.

Supporting the sanctions against Iran, France president urged all countries to impose an embargo on Iranian oil and freeze the international assets of Iran's central bank to force it to halt the suspected development of nuclear arms. He added that those who disagree with this act are responsible for the risk of military attack.
