9 Oct 2013 - 17:26

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and Qatar agreed to establish a joint trade council in the near future in a bid to enhance their mutual cooperation.

The agreement was reached in a meeting between high-ranking Iranian and Qatari trade officials in Doha on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Head of Tehran’s Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-e Eshaq pointed to the status quo in Iran-Qatar economic relations, and said, “We believe that the conditions are all set for the further expansion of economic ties between the two countries.”

Vice-Chairman of the Qatari Chamber of Commerce Muhammed Bin Ahmed Bin Towar Al-Kuwari, for his part, pointed to the age-old Iran-Qatar trade relations, and said, “Iran has played a valuable role in the progress and reconstruction of Qatar.”

Al-Kuwari further called on Iranian businessmen to boost their partnership in Qatar’s economic activities.

On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Qatari Ambassador to Iran Ibrahim Abdulrahman al-Mighaseibn discussed ways to expand all-out relations between the two friendly nations.

“As two neighboring Muslim countries, Iran and Qatar have great commonalties and many grounds for cooperation in various political and economic fields,” Zarif said during the meeting.

He pointed to the great economic and trade capacities of the two countries and expressed the hope that Tehran and Doha would further improve their relations by implementing agreements already reached.

The Qatari envoy, for his part, expressed his country’s determination to bolster ties with Iran in all fields.

Both Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense, security and cultural fields.

The two Persian Gulf littoral states recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation.
