Tehran hosts 17 states attending Intl. Congress on PHC, UHC

The First International Congress on Primary Health Care (PHC) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through the Family Health Program took place in the Iranian capital, with the participation of representatives from 17 countries.


According to The Iran Project,During the congress, several panels were organized to discuss the role of governments in the family health program and the impact of social issues on health. These panels were held as scheduled.

Mohammad Reza Vaez-Mahdavi, a member of the board of scientific directors at Shahid Beheshti University, which hosted the congress, emphasized the significance of addressing justice and equality in health and discussed the biological implications of inequality on health outcomes.

In another panel focused on newborn babies’ health, Dr. Gagan Gupta, a health specialist from the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), highlighted the need to prevent the leading causes of death among newborns and their mothers.

UNICEF is committed to promoting child survival and ensuring equitable access to medical and health services, Gupta added.

Additionally, Shirley Mark, the regional adolescent health specialist at the UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office, spoke about the remarkable developments in indicators related to mothers’ and newborns’ health in Iran, adding that Iran, as a successful model, can share its experiences with other countries.

The congress, held in Tehran on March 5, provided a platform for representatives from participating countries and international organizations to exchange their latest findings related to PHC and UHC through family health program during the two-day event.
