The Tehran Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will perform a repertoire of famous pieces by Iranian and international composers at a concert at Vahdat Hall in Tehran on January 24.

According to The Iran Project,Led by conductor Manuchehr Sahbai, the TSO will perform “Hezar Dastan Overture” by Morteza Hannaneh, “Symphony No. 5” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and “Suite Bergamasque” by Claude Debussy, ISNA reported on Saturday.

Hannaneh (1923–1989) was an Iranian composer and musician. He studied horn at the Tehran Conservatory of Music and basic composition with Parviz Mahmoud.

Hannaneh and Mahmoud were the true founders of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. For a short period, he was the principal conductor of this orchestra from 1953 to 1955. Hannaneh also studied composition in Italy. He won the first prize in the International Rostrum of Composers in 1966 "House of UNESCO", Paris.

“Hezar Dastan Overture” is one of Hannaneh's most important works. He also composed soundtracks for Persian films and he was the first composer who composed music for films in Iran.

“The Symphony No. 5” was composed in 1888 by the Russian composer Tchaikovsky (1840 –1893). He was the first Russian composer whose music would make a lasting impression internationally. Tchaikovsky wrote some of the most popular concert and theatrical music in the current classical repertoire.

“Suite Bergamasque” is a piano suite by the French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918). He began composing it around 1890 at the age of 28 but significantly revised it just before its 1905 publication. The popularity of the third movement, “Clair de lune,” has made it one of the composer's most famous works for piano, as well as one of the most well-known musical pieces of all time.

Debussy was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He showed enough musical talent to be admitted at the age of ten to France's leading music college, the Conservatoire de Paris. He originally studied the piano but found his vocation in innovative composition. He took many years to develop his mature style and was nearly 40 when he achieved global fame in 1902.
