26 Jun 2013 - 17:56

TEHRAN (ISNA)- The first locally-made advanced greenhouse for cultivation of transgenic plants was launched in Iran on Wednesday in a ceremony attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Iranian researchers have succeeded in mastering the knowhow for building such greenhouses which has turned to be an internationally-accepted and standard criterion in the region and can be utilized for conducting research projects, investigating and testing transgenic products and saving the country's currency formerly spent on import of transgenic products.

The greenhouse, the first one in the region, is equipped with rooms with separate air conditioner. Its main entries are equipped with air-shower system. All tools and devices are sterilized by autoclave and gas chamber. There are lighting and irrigation systems in all rooms and the greenhouse activities are entirely controlled by a central smart system.
