Zarif: UN resolution a 'global NO' to US threats

22 Dec 2017 - 12:21

IRNA – Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hailed the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in condemnation of the US recognition of Holy Quds as the capital of Zionist regime, describing it a 'global NO' to Washington's intimidation.

'A resounding global NO to Trump regime's thuggish intimidation at #UN,' Foreign Minister Zarif wrote on his Twitter page on Thursday.

The resolution was passed by 128 votes in condemnation of the decision by the US President Donald Trump.

The vote, as a diplomatic blow to Trump's policies, came after he threatened to cut the financial aids to countries which vote for the resolution.

“Let them vote against us,” he said on Wednesday. “… this isn’t like it used to be where they could vote against you and then you pay them hundreds of millions of dollars. We’re not going to be taken advantage of any longer.”

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley also had written to 180 countries, warning them that she would be “taking names” of those countries that support the resolution in favor of Palestine.

Palestinians consider the holy city of Quds as the capital of their future country.
