JCPOA Joint Commission session in Vienna wraps up

21 Jul 2017 - 21:13

IRNA – A Joint Commission session on the implementation of Iran nuclear deal – known as JCPOA – came to an end in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on Friday.

The meeting, which began at 11:30 local time at Vienna’s Coburg Hotel, was co-chaired by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Deputy EU Foreign Policy chief Helga Schmid.

Apart from the implementation of the JCPOA, the US lack of commitment to the nuclear deal was also discussed in the meeting.

Behzad Saberi, a member of the Iranian delegation, said that Araqchi will continue with his bilateral negotiations with the participating parties after the meeting.

Araqchi also held bilateral talks with Ms. Schmid and IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano on Thursday, Saberi said.

Araqchi will have other meetings with Ms. Schmid and US Under Secretary of State Thomas Shannon later on Friday, the Iranian negotiator added.

Saberi noted that bilateral meetings ordinarily take place on the sidelines of joint commission meetings and even the meeting with the US representative is not something new.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who was not present in Vienna talks, had met with Araqchi in Tehran a week earlier.
